Describing Archives: A Content Song; or, Seasons of DACS

Another song parody, woohoo!

(Yeah, I used to have a partial recording here–sorry, got shy, took it down.)

Full lyrics after the jump.

Seasons of DACS

525,600 items
525,000, some oversize
525,600 items
How do you measure a collection this size?
In boxes, in folders, in linear feet or cubic
In a series of parallel expressions of extent
With 525,600 items – is there a standardized way to document?
How about Describing Archives: A Content Standard? Measure in DACS. Process in DACS!

525,600 items!
That’s going to be one crazy processing plan
With 525,600 items
How can you describe the life of a woman or a man?
In scope and content, in biography
In LCSH headings, in chronology
It’s time now to sing out, though the backlog never ends
Let’s create some finding aids for our collections!
Following Describing Archives: A Content Standard! Measure in DACS. Process in DACS!

Is this the project that was “in the works” a few weeks ago? You sounded like you had a great team working together for the audio. I love the lyrics!

    • Dee Dee Says:

It is not, but I think it would be ADORABLE if a student group recorded themselves singing it, wink wink. :)

Music video project is here, if you’re interested.
